Frequently Asked Questions
Moon blocks (jiaobei) are a divination ritual common in Taiwanese and Chinese culture. A pair of crescent-shaped wooden blocks are cast before a deity. "Sheng jiao" (one up, one down) means yes; "Yin jiao" (both down) means no; "Xiao jiao" (both up) means the deity is amused and you should ask again.
The online version uses a cryptographically secure random number to simulate physical jiaobei drop outcomes with the same probability (25% each). Whether the results are meaningful depends on personal faith. The tool provides a respectful, randomized ritual space — interpretation is personal.
Traditionally, before casting you should silently tell the deity your name, address, and the question being asked, as a sign of sincerity. For online use, find a quiet moment, clearly form your question in your mind, then cast with sincerity.
"Xiao jiao" (both concave sides up) typically means the deity is smiling — the question may be unclear, the timing may be off, or the answer is already within you. Consider rephrasing your question, waiting a while before asking again, or reflecting whether you already know the answer.
Tradition holds that once you receive "Sheng jiao" (affirmative), the matter is settled — don't keep asking. After "Yin" or "Xiao jiao," wait a moment before trying again. Repeatedly asking the same question is considered disrespectful; three attempts per question is the traditional limit.
